MobileBurn.com – The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is an Android 3.0 Honeycomb powered tablet computer with a 10.1 touchscreen display and a dual-core Samsung processor. We spent some time with it before the official launch event here at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. More info: www.mobileburn.com
The Samsung Galaxy Tab USB adapter kit works well with a flash drive but does NOT work with a USB Hard drive. the adapter connects to the tablet via the 30-pin connector on the bottom of the tablet or on the connector on the right side of the keyboard dock.

Hey guys, Check out our channel to see some helpful videos on the Samsung Galaxy S2. We’re the Funkay Monkays and we’re looking to be the best Samsung Mobilers team there ever was. Click Click !
@Undergroundhiphoop It is more simple: They know the war is lost, and now they try to desperately fight everybody with the last resource.
@gonijanturtles Yeah I saw it after my comment. It’s childish, they’ve not only sued Samsungs Tab, but also their phones and HTC too. It could be for two reasons, trying to eliminate all competition OR it could be a show to distract users from thinking about the Iphone 5 delay x)
@vaghoust do not get an ipad man, you’ll not be able to see most of the internet webistes that have flash, i can tell you that is really really annoying, tons of sites use flash and cannot be seen with the ipad… WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU JOBS??? are you looking for us to spend all our money in your nazi appstore?? @Shalomp
sorry, I dont have an ipod classic to test.
@AndroidFixation
thanks for the reply! i should also point out that (based on other videos on youtube) that connecting an iphone / ipod touch to a ipad 2 will ONLY result in the access of the photos in the iphone / ipod touch on the ipad 2. Hence, the use of the iphone / ipod touch as a portable hard drive is once again not allowed even on the ipad 2. One last question is – a classic ipod. How does the galaxy tab 10.1 react when a classic ipod is connected to it???
@Shalomp
contiuned:
in addition to connecting the 2 via the USB adapter., I also tried to connect them via Bluetooth and that failed also. I should point out the the iPhone 4 is jail broken and I’m almost certain that Bluetooth was broken by the jail break because the same phone would not connect to another iPhone 4, a lap top, a black berry and some other phone.
@Shalomp
I just plugged an iPhone 4 into the Galaxy Tab 10.1 the phone made the “connection” noise like when you connect to itunes and the Tab 10.1 responded by opening up the Gallery app but the items displayed are not from the phone, its from the Tablet. it seems that the devices can detect each other but does NOT allow any interaction between the 10.1 and the iPhone 4. even the USB indicator failed to come on.
When released, the Galaxy S WiFi models may work like the iPad/iPod set up.
@neilbantoc37
that’s excellent, all the more reason why I wish the 10.1 keyboard dock was more than just a keyboard. I may go with the Kingston Wi-Drive wireless SSD Drive if its Android compatible., as of earlier this summer it was for “iOS with Android to follow”
Hi androidfixation and thanks for the video. u can connect an iphone/ipod to a ipad 2 using its USB adapter so i was wondering if u have tried connecting an iphone/ipod to a galaxy tab 10.1? i’m asking this cos i have a 64gb ipod which can effectively serve as a portable hard drive if the galaxy tab recognizes it. If it can’t, then the ipad 2 has a leg up over the galaxy tab!
@AndroidFixation
Any external desktop hard drive with its own power supply will work. A portable hard drive will require a desktop usb hub that has an external power supply. You also need to format the hard drive to fat32.
I can use an NTFS external HDD on my Asus Transformer just well.. My theory is this: Most tablets, including phones, that do have USB host or USB on the go (SGS2, GT10.1) say the “High Powered device” notification when it cannot read an external HDD.. The reason I can read external HDDs fine on my Transformer is that the keyboard dock has its own battery, so the power needed by the external HDD is provided by the keyboard dock..
@plm3d
which brand hard with its own power supply did you use? did you make a video of this set up?
@AndroidFixation
OK so I tested out a desktop external hard drive that has its own power supply and it works. Hallelujah! Also, you can use a portable hard drive ONLY if you connect another usb port adaptor that has a power supply. So you would have to connect the Samsung usb adaptor then connect another usb port adaptor with a power supply then connect the portable hard drive which is idiotic when you can just connect a powered external hard drive.
@AndroidFixation
The Acer Iconia and the Asus transformer. Also, there’s another that I can’t remember. I’ve seen videos on youtube where people test out portable hard drives on these devices. I’m going to test if an external hard drive with its own power source can be utilized with the Galaxy 10.1.
@plm3d
which tablets are able to use hard drives? I also have the Toshiba Thrive and it wasnt able to read the hard drive either.
on of my viewers believes tablets do not output enough power to run a hard drive.
OK, I have a portable hard drive that’s already formatted to fat32 and is also 500gb. I think the issue is that tablets either can’t recognize portable hard drives over a certain amount of memory OR Samsung needs a firmware or software upgrade to be able to use it OR the usb hub doesn’t have enough power to turn on portable hard drives. Other tablets are able to use portable hard drives less than 500gb so I don’t understand.
I tested (twice): wireless mouse+keyboard+adapter+tablet. results: mouse detected, cursor on scree but screen flicker, lag, device freeze and after about 2 minutes or so, it rebooted itself.
then I tested (once): tablet+adapter+wireless mouse. results: same as above
I could be that I’m using a wireless mouse so the tablet my not be reading the transmitter correctly.
If you’re considering the 10.1, Keyboard & USB adapter and really need a mouse. I’ll buy a wired mouse and try this again
And the mouse? You tested the keyboard + usb adapter + mouse?
@786bisharat
sorry but I don’t have the 7 inch tab to test it out on but I could probably run down to the AT&T retail store where they have Tab 7’s on display and see if the adapter works and I’ll report back here in a bit. 🙂
Hello, I have the 7 inch Galaxy Tab with wifi and phone function, can I use this port for my device? I mean is it fully compatible with my device?
@YHU61
I would love to reformat it but it currently has 500GB of data on it. 🙂 However, Im in desperate need of more storage space and I need another hard drive. I’ll do another video after I buy another hard drive and confirm that it works which I hope it does cause that would be awesome.
Did you try formatting hard drive to fat32? Sometimes these Android devices can’t read ntfs.
@NYBRUH
the weather widget IS from the Asus Eee Pad, I just downloaded and installed the .apk from XDA devlopers site.
OR
you can Google Asus Eee pad transformer weather widget.
@NYBRUH
I don’t have one to test out but I did plug a flash drive into it and it works and I also plugged my HP C4280 printer into it and that worked as well so I would imagine that a SDHC should work too. when I get my hands on one, I’ll make a new video.
@NYBRUH
I got the USB adapter from Samsung. I just tweeted a little while ago that Verizon retail stores are now carrying accessories for the 10.1 I haven’t been into a Verizon retail store to see for myself so I don’t know which accessories they’re carrying and if they’re in fact available at ALL stores.
A Google search shows some online retailers selling the kit also, but Id beware that it might be a generic brand and NOT an official Samsung product.
Can you plug a SDHC card reader into it?
Where did you get this kit from? I wasnt able to find it. Also, the desktop weather… howd you get that app? I had it on an Asus I tried out, but its not on my Galaxy.
Thanx!
You have to have a powered usb hub for it to read the hard drive
